Senior Hockey Finals

2A XI:

On Monday, 11th March, the 2A XI played Regent House in the Final of the McDowell Shield.  The game was dominated by Ballymena Academy from the first whistle with several efforts on goal in the first 10 minutes.  Sarah Carroll then converted one of the many chances to give the Ballymena girls a deserved lead after 12 minutes.  Despite dominating the remainder of the half, the Academy girls could not add to the score line.  The second half continued in a similar vein with Academy dominating possession, however, no further goals were scored and the match finished 1-0 to Ballymena Academy.  Congratulations were offered to the  players and their coach Becky Linford.  The girls received winning  medals during Friday’s assembly and presented the trophy to the school.

 

3rd XI:

On Wednesday, 13th March at Stormont, the 3rd XI played Friends School, Lisburn in the Final of their Cup Competition.  It was a game of two halves with Friends having the better of the first-half and Ballymena Academy enjoying more possession and scoring opportunities in the second-half.  With just 4 minutes remaining, Friends were awarded a penalty stroke which they converted.  Despite a valiant effort by the Academy girls to get an equaliser, the scored finished 1-0 to Friends. On Friday’s assembly, the players and their coach, Erin Harpur, were congratulated on reaching the Final and the players were presented with  medals.
