The Careers Department in school are seeking willing volunteers to help facilitate mock interviews as part of the school's assessment centre for Year 14 pupils in October.
If you would be willing to conduct short interviews on the afternoon of 9th October, please contact our Careers Technician, Mr Graeme Patterson. Ballymena Academy Past Pupils

The Irish equestrian world recently appointed two of Ballymena Academy’s past pupils to lead
two of their high performance programmes
Jessica Kurten (1988) is currently high performance manager to the Irish Senior Show
Jumping team. Jessica has an amazing record herself as an athlete, having previously
represented Ireland at the highest level in showjumping. Jessica has lead her squad of riders this year to many Nations Cup placings and has recently guided them at the world equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany, to attain their Olympic qualification for LA in 2028.

Debbie Byrne (1989) is currently high performance manager for the youth eventing
programme. This entails managing three age categories & preparing them for their respective
European Championships each year, It has been a hugely successful year for two of those
age categories. The Irish Pony Eventing Team were in Le Mans France in July at their
European championships & won team silver & individual silver. The Irish junior European
eventing team returned from Sejersbo, Sweden in August with a team silver & individual
bronze. Debbie also took on the role to develop the young horse programme in 2025 for Ireland, on a three year term. This is to identify talented horses & select them for the WBFSH World Young Horse Eventing Championships each year. These championships are held in October in Le lion d’Angers, France each year. Ireland won silver in the 6 year old category & bronze in the 7 year old category in 2025 ...

Ballymena Academy Past Pupils’ Association Golf Day – 24th July 2026

The Ballymena Academy Past Pupils’ Association Golf Day was a fantastic success, with 54 golfers enjoying a superb day of golf at Galgorm Castle Golf Club. We were blessed with excellent weather, which made for a thoroughly enjoyable day and some excellent golf.

The day featured both a team competition and an individual Stableford competition, with some outstanding performances throughout.

Congratulations to all of our prize winners:

- Watt Memorial Trophy Winner: Keith Lamont
- Team Competition Winners: Richard Cameron, Leanne Cameron, Steven Johnston & Keith Lamont
- Nearest the Pin (7th): Luke Marshall
- Longest Drive (18th): Jamie Surgenor

Ballymena Academy Past Pupils

Yesterday afternoon, Dr David Johnston on behalf of the Board of Governors, and Rhonda Duffin on behalf of the Past Pupils' Association, made presentations to Margaret Brown who will be retiring at the end of term.

Margaret has worked in Ballymena Academy for 52 years, serving under four Principals: the late Dennis Jagoe, Peter Martin, Ronnie Hassard and Stephen Black. It would be a widely held view that anything Margaret doesn’t know about Ballymena Academy isn’t worth knowing!

I'm sure we all have fond memories of Margaret from our time at Ballymena Academy. On behalf of all past pupils, we wish her a very happy and well deserved retirement! ...
