It is with regret that the Board of Directors of Ballymena RFC inform members of the passing of A. Wallace McMaster peacefully on 24th February 2026.

As a Ballymena Academy former pupil, Wallace was a proud Honorary Life member of the club and part of the 1970s Ballymena XV. A past Club Captain, he formed a formidable centre partnership with Ian McIlrath for both Ballymena and Ulster. Wallace won 18 caps on the left wing for Ireland, debuting in the 1972 Five Nations. He was a Five Nations winner in 1974 and made his last international appearance against the All Blacks in Wellington on their 1976 tour.

On behalf of everyone connected with Ballymena RFC could we extend our sincere condolences to Wallace’s wife Beth, daughters Zoe and Sarah, son David, and grandchildren Eva, Ben, Éila and Nina.

A funeral service will be held on Monday 2nd March at St. Patrick’s Church, Castle Street, Ballymena at 1pm to which all family and friends are respectfully invited. Family flowers only, donations if desired, can be made to Dementia NI.
