Irish Schools’ Cross Country Silver Medallists

At the Irish Cross Country Championships held in Clane, Co Kildare on Saturday, Ballymena Academy Senior Girls Team came an excellent second place overall.

Conditions underfoot were good, and the course was very flat. This resulted in an extremely fast race, although a strong wind tested the competitors to the limit. The race was dominated by the individual qualifiers from the four provinces with some excellent performances resulting.

The team Gold went to St Angela’s, Waterford. Strong finishes by all the team members from Ballymena Academy proved crucial in securing the Silver medal position. Katie Agnew was the first team runner to cross the line, closely followed by Sophie McCluney. Congratulations to all our runners on this outstanding result. Third place went to Ard Scoil Na Ndeise Dungarvan. The Ballymena Academy team consisted of Katie Agnew, Rachel Brown, Sarah McCloy, Sophie McCluney, Lucy Millar and Chloe Robinson.
