On Thursday 27th February 2020, Ireland’s most capped sportsperson, Shirley McCay, Ireland Women’s Hockey player Megan Frazer and the Ireland Women’s Hockey Assistant Coach Gareth Grundie were welcome visitors to Ballymena Academy.

In an initiative instigated by the Ballymena Academy Head of Hockey, Miss McNeill, some 25 coaches from across the North Eastern area attended a Hockey Coaching Clinic, to share best practice and learn from some of the greats in the world of Irish Hockey.

Commenting on this event Miss McNeill said, “it has been wonderful to learn from players and a coach who are performing at such an elite level of the game. The Ireland team are about to head to South Africa to continue their preparations for the Tokyo Olympics later in the year. Following a hugely successful World Cup it’s absolutely fantastic to hear some tips and tactics from the team. I would like to thank Keith Liggett from Legacy Wealth for his support of this wonderful event and opportunity for our coaches and coaches of other schools to develop their coaching skills”
