Young Environmentalist Society

The Young Environmentalist Society are a keen group of pupils from years 8 - 14 who meet every Monday afternoon 3.30-4.30. As well as growing our own vegetables we monitor and protect the biodiversity of the school grounds.

Annual Report – 2024-25

This year, Y.E.S. has been as busy as ever, planting and harvesting crops and keeping up with the maintenance of the wellbeing garden. In October, our tradition of carving pumpkins resulted in another display of spooky and creative designs, while November saw many autumnal walks, during which our members learned about various tree and plant species. In December, we crafted bobble hats out of string and engraved wooden ornaments for some festive fun.

When the sun was out, you could find us planting flowers for the garden and putting the polytunnel to good use, sowing vegetables like cucumbers and Brussels sprouts!zWe even discovered frogspawn along the way!

Even on rainy Monday afternoons, there was no shortage of fun. Whether it was planting seeds in the greenhouse, using microscopes to view various pond specimens or creating spectacular nature collages from leaves, sticks, and pinecones we found plenty of ways to stay engaged.

From litter picking to adding flowers around the grounds to brighten up everyone’s day, thanks goes to all the amazing staff and Y.E.S. members who continue to dedicate their time to caring for our school!
