Remembrance Day 2017

Remembrance Day was marked in school today by two Act of Remembrance Assemblies – at 9.10a.m. and at 11.00a.m. At each there was a short video presentation by the History Department, overseen by Mrs. Shaw and compiled by Mr. D. Ross.

This was followed by the formal Act of Remembrance in which Head Boy, Zak Humphrey  and Head Girl, Stephanie Penney, read from Micah 4 v 1 – 4 and Matthew 5 v 9 – 12 respectively.

Mr. Black prayed for those whose lives, in wars and conflicts past and present, have been given and taken away.

After the playing of The Last Post by Cameron Olphert  (1st Assembly) / Matthew Pettigrew (2nd Assembly), the Head Boy and Head Girl laid Poppy Wreaths at the school’s memorials to former pupils who served in the two world wars.

The Act of Remembrance concluded with the playing of Reveille and Mr. Black’s reading of the Kohima Epitaph: When you go home tell them of us and say, “For your tomorrow we gave our today”.
