TRI Inter Schools' Showjumping League

Once again it was a full action packed day at The Meadows Equestrian Centre for the second leg of the TRI Inter schools Showjumping League on Saturday 7th October.

It is always amazing to see the geographic spread of competitors who attend this very popular League and this month was no exception. With thirty teams competing in a very competitive Novice Team event, it was certainly a case of ‘dog eat dog’! However, there were just two teams who finished on a zero score and stealing the march was Down High Hawks followed by Larne Grammar.  Our pupils ( Zoe Dickey, Mya McLean, Katy McLean and Chloe Gillespie) put in a strong effort and just finished outside the top six placings.

The Open Team class had a clear, outright winner with Ballymena Academy Navy (Alex Byrne x2 William Hamilton and Tori Surgeoner) the only quartet out of 17 schools to finish on a zero score, giving them a back to back victory.  Not to be outdone our Ballymena Academy Red team (Taylor Hunter, Charlotte Wylie, Courtney Hamilton and Ellen Harkness) also had a super day and finished in 6th place.  This gives both teams some valuable league points at that stage in the competition.

All the hard work that pupils and parents put into their presentation is judged at every competition by tack and turnout inspectors.  This was well rewarded on Saturday for Taylor Hunter, Charlotte Wylie, Courtney Hamilton and Ellen Harkness who were awarded first place in this competition.
