TRI Ulster Schools Showjumping League

Saturday saw the penultimate round of the TRI Ulster Schools Showjumping League at the Meadows Equestrian Centre.

The novice team kicked off the day at 9am against 27 schools hoping to maintain or improve upon their current 3rd league place. They held their nerve and went into the lead only to be pushed into 2nd place near the end of the competition. A super result before the final in January!

Novice team - Zoe Dickey, Myah McLean, Katy McLean and Chloe Gillespie

Nerves were high as the 12 open teams went out to walk the course at 1pm.  Ballymena Academy Navy had won the previous 3 competitions but knew that they needed to pull out another good performance to keep the league within our sights for January.

Ballymena Academy Red were our first team out and they gave it their best, unfortunately finishing on a score of 12 faults. This was still good enough to get 7th place and some valuable points to keep in the top 6 for the final day.

Ballymena Academy Navy team consisting of Alex Byrne on two ponies, William Hamilton and Tori Surgeoner held their nerve going in to jump last in the competition while everyone watched on to see if it was possible for a school to win 4 shows!  They knew that it would take a hoof perfect performance to get round on a zero score and faster than Down High School, Assumption and BRA who are tight behind us in the league.

Timings were counted and the judge announced that we had won the competition for the fourth time in the league!  Needless to say there were a lot of cheers, delighted parents, pupils and teacher!!
